Your names/a little about yourself ?

My name is Michelle Rogers. I am a 19 year old college student, blogger, & activist. I was born and raised in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada. A little over a year ago, I started an Instagram/blog called BodyPosiPower, where I share my stories a from the past and the present. I cover a variety of topics including my experiences with bullying, fat shaming, mental health, and more.

What do you do?

When I'm not knee deep in exams or essays, I love to travel and write. Writing has become one of my main passions in life and am incredibly lucky to be able to work and do what I love at the same time. I spend a lot of my time sharing stories on my blog/instagram, and one of my favourite parts about it is that I get to connect and chat with so many likeminded people from around the world. I love that feeling when you read something online that could just have easily been written by yourself, as you can relate to it so much.

Why did you get into that?

As a young girl, I use to keep multiple diaries. I would write down my experiences with bullies and my mental health. Writing became my outlet, it gave me the voice I didn't have at the time. After I graduated from high school, I decided it was time to put myself first and see a licensed therapist. She was the one who encouraged me to begin writing/blogging, and when I originally stared my page it was just quotes and Pinterest photos. I never thought I would share any of my stories, my battles, heck, even the thought of sharing a photo of myself terrified me. But here we are! It's a been a little over a year after starting BodyPosiPower & I've been interviewed by the Today Show, featured on Revelist, and I am now published in a Magazine that's sold around the world. I never would've thought things would've taken off the way they did, but I am forever grateful. These opportunities have led me to meeting some of my closest friends & allies, and has created a true sense of community.

What struggles have you over come and how?

One of the main struggles I've been focusing on has definitely been regarding my poor body image. Although I can't necessarily say I've "over came" this struggle of mine, I have for sure learned how to tackle it a bit better. Learning to love yourself is not any easy process and I think it's something that follows you throughout the rest of your life. I believe once you accept that this isn't going to be an overnight thing, you can really start your journey towards loving & appreciating the person you are, right now.

How do you stay positive and focused?

I just try my best to remember why I do what I do. By putting myself and my story out there on social media platforms, I am an easy target for many hateful messages and comments. But I always focus on the positives. I've had people message me saying that by just hearing my story or reading one of my posts, that I've helped them in more ways that I could have ever imagined. I'm so incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to share my story and have This Platform to connect with so many amazing and likeminded people across the world. People will always try to drag you down when they see you up, because they are the ones hurting the most on the inside. Don't give them your time or energy, and try to focus those things on you!

Any words of advice for future girl bosses following in your footsteps?

Don't limit yourself. I use to think that because of my size and my age, that I would never be successful. That my story wasn't important, and that my voice would never be heard. You can be anything you want to be and do anything you want to do, right now. I'll be cheering you on.

What is one quote you stand by?

"Everything You Need, Lies Within Yourself."
